POV you’re at a haunted house and a man with a chainsaw is between you and the nearest exit. But have you ever stopped to wonder about the man behind the bloody hockey mask? We visited the Fear Factory and I had the pleasure of speaking with Samuel Rickart, one of the haunted house actors.
How did you get into this line of work?
“I got started when I went to a larping event at Liberty Park. Larping is live action role play. It's quite fun and I highly recommend it. I met someone there and he told me about Fear Factory. I wanted to get into acting and I've been scaring the kids on my block [for Halloween] for a little while giving out treats. And I was like, I think it's time for an upgrade.”
What’s your favorite part of the job?
“My favorite part is a lot of the friendships that I've made and the characters I've come up with. One character I have is this very angry older brother stereotype. It’s also cool to see how the place has grown and developed over the years.”
What’s the hardest part of the job?
“The hardest part is being able to keep your energy up all night. It's definitely an intensive job, but it's easier when you get the hang of it and take a break when you need it. You definitely want to take care of yourself and drink water, take care of your throat.”
