Local Orgs Making a Difference

🌳 You may be able to tell by the name; TreeUtah is a nonprofit planting trees throughout the state by partnering with municipalities, businesses, and volunteers.

🐦 Tracy Aviary promotes the care of birds and nature through education and conservation. Visit the Liberty Park location to see a variety of birds from around the globe or the Pia Okwai Nature Center, which serves as a sanctuary for local wildlife of the Jordan River.

🐸 If you love science and nature, you’ll love volunteering with Sageland Collaborative. Help them collect data on boreal toads or work on habitat restoration efforts. The data is used to protect Utah’s unique ecosystem.

🌊 Seven Canyons Trust is dedicated to uncovering and restoring the buried creeks of Utah’s Salt Lake Valley. They’re currently selling the “Wild Wasatch Front” book to help fund projects like revitalizing Folsom Trail.

Electric Landscaping Incentive Program Returns

Salt Lakers can now apply for vouchers to purchase electric landscaping equipment. According to the Utah Division of Air Quality, one hour with a gas-powered leaf blower is equivalent to driving 727 miles.

Voucher amounts vary depending on if you recycle your old equipment or just purchase a new electric model (hint: You’ll get a little more for recycling!).

Applications are open now!
