Are you ready for Utah’s Municipal General Election on Tuesday, Nov. 4? This one’s all about city government aka the people (like your mayor and city council) who make decisions that affect your day-to-day life.

🗳️ Important Dates

  • Oct. 14: Mail-in ballots are sent to voters.
  • Oct. 24: Voter registration deadline to vote by mail (voters can register in-person at an early voting center or at a polling location on Election Day).
  • Oct. 21-31: Early voting period
  • Nov. 4: Election Day ⭐

What’s on the Ballot

In Utah, municipal elections happen in odd-numbered years. Most cities in Salt Lake County will have mayoral and city council races, but not every district is up for election, so you may not receive a ballot (check if a candidate is up for election in your area). Depending on where you live, you may also see candidates for local special service districts.

What’s New?

Because of tweaks to election law during the 2025 Legislative Session, two new critical changes are in effect this election:

  • Ballot Deadline: Ballots must arrive at the County Clerk’s Office by 8 p.m. on Election Day. Postmarks no longer count! So if you have a mail-in ballot that you’re worried won’t arrive by that time, put it in a ballot drop-box.
  • Emergency Ballot: Voters who are hospitalized or unable to leave home can now authorize someone they trust to pick up and return an emergency ballot on their behalf.
