I love discovering new foods, and you’d be surprised at what you can find in Utah. Among the hidden gems is the Sonoran hot dog, a Mexican and American fusion that’s especially popular in the Southwest.
What Are Sonoran Hot Dogs?
Originating in Hermosillo, the capital of Sonora in northern Mexico, in the 1980s, the Sonoran hot dog quickly became a favorite in Arizona.
It’s typically a bacon-wrapped hot dog on a bolillo-style (crusty white bread) bun, topped with pinto beans, mayo, jalapeño salsa, onions, and tomatoes.
Where To Find Them?
I first heard about the Sonoran hot dogs at La Yaquesita through this TikTok video and was immediately sold by their housemade buns. An added bonus is their late-night hours — open until 10 p.m. most nights, but on Friday and Saturday you can satisfy your craving until 3 a.m.
This food truck is Guy Fieri-approved aka a winner winner Sonoran hot dog dinner. Try their spin on a classic, the Arizona dog, which is topped with green chile nacho cheese and Flamin’ Hot Cheetos. And follow their Facebook page to keep up with the weekly schedule and location.
