| | | Coachman’s Dinner & Pancake House may be gone, but its iconic 30-foot sign (built in 1959) could still have a future. Community groups are racing to raise $10,000 by the end of July to safely remove and preserve the mid-century landmark before redevelopment moves forward. [Salt Lake Tribune] | - Why it matters: The sign has become a neighborhood landmark, and many Salt Lakers associate it with family dinners, decades of memories, and even some controversy. [Deseret News]
- The online discourse: Some neighbors have already donated or volunteered help, while others argue the developer, or the city, should cover the cost. Others have floated ideas like installing it in a public park or finding it a home in a museum. [Instagram]
- What’s next? If fundraising succeeds, Yesco (the same Salt Lake City company that made the sign) will dismantle it and it will be stored in the Granary District while organizers search for a permanent public home. [Salt Lake Tribune]

| What Salt Lake's Talking About |
| | SLC’s (Likely) New Congressman | For the first time in eight years, Utah is almost certainly sending a Democrat to the U.S. Congress: former Congressman Ben McAdams. We ask him about key issues impacting the state. [City Cast Salt Lake 🎧] | | Bounce Back to State Parks | If you’re planning on visiting a Utah State Park on the Fourth of July, you’ll get a free Bounce Back Pass for another day pass visit between Aug. 3-6. Just keep in mind, with State 2 fire restrictions in effect statewide, no open fires are allowed. [Utah State Parks] | | Rabbit Disease Returns | A deadly rabbit virus has resurfaced in Utah’s wild rabbit population for the first time since 2022, with confirmed cases in Summit and Tooele counties. It poses no risk to people, but wildlife officials say to avoid handling sick or dead animals and instead report them to the nearest DWR office. [KSL] | | A Bike Map for Beginners | If you’ve wanted to start biking more around Salt Lake but have been put off by our lack of infrastructure, the people behind Sweet Streets created a low-stress bike map that prioritizes safety. That way new riders can find the best beginner-friendly routes. [Sweet Streets] | | Sen. Curtis Treks Utah | Sen. John Curtis is walking 250 miles across Utah in the name of patriotism, ending in Provo on the Fourth of July. He’ll walk roughly 30 miles a day and said the trip is meant to honor Utah’s pioneer heritage and not to campaign for higher office. [KSL] |
