| State officials are pulling Buzzers Cat's Claw supplement tablets from shelves after linking them to a death and several overdoses. Health officials are warning residents to stay alert and dispose of the products safely if they have them. | - Not a one-off: State records tie 152 overdoses to kratom over the past five years, prompting the Utah Legislature to approve a partial kratom ban this year. [Utah Legislature]
- The unadvertised ingredient: State labs found the Buzzers product contained two opioid-acting compounds derived from kratom. Officials say these compounds can be stronger than morphine and cause heavy sedation. [Utah News Dispatch]
- Use medical disposal methods if you have these at home. Retailers should pull the product and contact Utah Department of Agriculture and Food’s Specialized Products Division. [UDAF]
- If you suspect an overdose: Health officials recommend administering naloxone and calling 911 immediately. Free kits are available at any Salt Lake County library or at the Salt Lake Harm Reduction Project's box. Utah Naloxone's next free virtual training is Aug. 18. We also explored why more neighbors carry this life-saving drug on our show. [Salt Lake Harm Reduction Project, Utah Naloxone, City Cast Salt Lake 🎧]

[United Flags of Fashion] | | Feds Release a 10-Year Plan for Lake PowellThe Bureau of Reclamation released its long-awaited plan for Lake Powell and Lake Mead. Under the new agreement, Upper Basin states, including Utah, may voluntarily cut up to 200,000 acre-feet of shrinking Colorado River water, while giving the feds yearly flexibility to adjust operations. It replaces a 2007 agreement after the seven basin states missed their own deadline to strike a deal.
