• Sports Lake City: The Smith Entertainment Group’s Sports, Entertainment, Culture, and Convention District is part of a $6.6 billion sports development boom that includes the Power District and Bees’ ballpark in South Jordan — which likely helped Salt Lake reach the number 12 spot on Sports Business Journal’s best sports business cities. • The Delta Center is currently under construction, with a multi-year overhaul to better accommodate both Jazz basketball and Mammoth hockey. This offseason, crews tackled obstructed-view hockey seats, rebuilt the upper north end with full-view terraces, renovated suites, and added suspended “gondola” seating for about 200. Fans will get their first look at the Sept. 26 preseason game. [SEG]
• Then comes the Salt Palace: The convention center will shut down entirely beginning in fall 2027 for reconstruction, with reopening expected around 2030. The revamped facility will add a second ballroom so Salt Lake can host multiple major events simultaneously, which officials estimate could generate an additional $105 million in annual economic impact. • And remember, we are helping foot the bill. Salt Lake City’s 0.5% sales tax increase has generated nearly $66 million as of May. $900 million in sales-tax revenue is pledged to SEG over the agreement’s 30-year life. The Legislature has separately committed another $300 million toward burying a portion of 300 West to create a pedestrian plaza connecting the Delta Center to the rest of the district. Over a Million Temple Tickets

SLC Parks Scavenger Hunt

Salt Lake City put together a very doable scavenger hunt across its parks and trails. Complete at least 15 tasks and win a prize at the city’s National Public Lands Day celebration at Liberty Park on Saturday, Sept. 26.
