We’ve been hearing about it all year, but now the election is less than a month away. You just might receive your ballot in the mail this week. Here are some need-to-know details to make sure you’re prepared for Nov. 5.

Important Dates

Oct. 15: By-mail ballots sent to voters

Oct. 22 - Nov.1: Early voting in-person at an early voting location

Oct. 29: Last chance to ask for a by-mail ballot

Nov. 4: Last day to postmark your by-mail ballot

🇺🇸 Nov. 5: General Election Day 🇺🇸

Nov. 19: Board of Canvassers certify election results

Registering to Vote

To register to vote in Utah you must be a U.S. citizen, a resident of Utah for at least 30 days before the election, and at least 18 years old on or before Election Day. You can register to vote online, by mail, or in-person.

⌨️ Online

In order to register online, you must have a current driver’s license or state ID.

📬 Mail

Print, fill out, and mail in your voter registration form. You can also scan and email the form. A physical signature is required (no electronic signatures).

🚶‍♂️ In-Person

To register in person, visit the Salt Lake County Clerk’s office Monday-Friday (closed holidays) at 2001 S. State Street, S1-200. You can also do same-day registration on Nov. 5 during polling hours (7 a.m.-8 p.m.) at an Election Day Vote Center. Bring a valid photo ID and proof of residency.

Vote by Mail

Mail-in ballots are being sent out Tuesday, so you should get them soon. If you don’t get them by next Tuesday, contact the Salt Lake County Clerk at 385-468-7400 or vote@saltlakecounty.gov. You have until Monday, Nov. 4 to send them back by mail, or to drop them off:

Vote in Person

Bring your ID and either vote early, between Oct. 22 - Nov. 1 or on Election Day (Nov. 5) at a Vote Center.

What’s on the Ballot?

We’ve been doing a lot of election coverage, including candidate interviews, ballot measure breakdowns, and more. If you just need a preview of everything on the ballot, you can check out vote.utah.gov.
