Catholic Community Services recently announced that they’ll be ending their refugee resettlement program due to changes in federal funding, leaving many Salt Lakers wondering how they can best support our refugee community. Here are a few opportunities.

Donate

⚖️ The Refugee Justice League provides critical legal services for refugees. They accept donations or, if qualified, you can sign up to be an attorney member.

🛍️ Gather your friends and consider putting together kits with essential needs like toilet paper, dish towels, and soap. Donations can be dropped off Mondays and Wednesdays at Utah Refugee Connection in South Salt Lake at 3134 S. 300 E.

Volunteer

🍎 The Asian Association of Utah is looking for English assistants as well as volunteers for its Youth After School Program. Volunteers must commit to at least three hours, one day a week, throughout the school year.

🤝 Catholic Community Services greatest volunteer need is for family mentors. This role helps families adjust to their new community. Volunteers must commit to two to five hours a week for six months.

🏠 Salt Lake City’s Know Your Neighbor program connects volunteers with refugees. Opportunities include mentoring, tutoring, and skill sharing.
