You may have seen people lining up in droves for the opening of Bella’s Market, a new grocery store out of Utah City. But what is Utah City?

Is It a City?

Utah City is a massive, 700-acre development rising in Vineyard, on the east shore of Utah Lake. Think of it like the Daybreak of Utah County. While it’s not its own municipality, it does have big plans to be an urban center, with housing, retail, offices, parks, and transit all built into one walkable area.

The Vision

A key part of Utah City’s vision is transit. The development is envisioned as a “15-minute city,” where most daily needs are reachable without a car. The layout emphasizes pedestrian streets, bike lanes, and transit access, centered around the Vineyard FrontRunner Station (which opened in 2022).

Key Amenities

  • Green Space: The Greenline Promenade is a 12-acre linear park that will run from the train station down to the lake.
  • Wellness: Utah City is the first Peloton-powered community in the state. Every residential building will include co-branded fitness rooms equipped with Peloton bikes.
  • Racquet Club: In the works is a space featuring pickleball, tennis, and padel courts.
  • Institutions: Home to the Utah Valley University extension campus and the future home of the Huntsman Cancer Institute.
  • Bella’s Market: Vineyard’s first grocery store in 100 years.
  • The Bodega x Uncle Boggy’s: Uncle Boggy’s, known for their sandwiches, now has a pop-up space called The Bodega in Utah City.

Why It Matters

Utah County is one of the fastest-growing regions in the country, and Utah City is an attempt to channel that growth into a denser, more walkable model. If successful, it could become a blueprint for how the area grows in the coming decades.
