When it feels like an oven outside, there’s nothing better than a cold, sweet treat to cool you down. Here are the best spots around Salt Lake for shaved ice, ice cream, paletas, and more.
🍧 Shaved Ice
Yummy’s sells my favorite bingsu, which is a Korean shaved ice that has a milk base and a fluffy snow-like consistency. The mango has fresh mango, mango sauce, popping boba, and mini mochi pieces for some nice texture. Heads up, bingsu is only available at their Orem and West Valley locations.
Honestly, you can’t go wrong with shaved ice, and often your neighborhood shaved ice shack is the way to go. But I went to The Snowey Shack in Huntsville after a long day of floating in Pineview Reservoir, and it was perfect. Fun fact: It’s right next to David O. McKay’s home, former president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
🍨 Ice Cream/Popsicles
A lot of the best foods can be found in strip malls, and this spot in West Jordan is no exception. Coco’s Neveria y Taqueria sells tasty ice cream and mangonadas but also sells yummy food like tacos and esquites.
A new ice cream shop that opened down the street from Caputo’s. Pair your ice cream with sticky rice or try one of their delicious floats (thai tea with grass jelly or matcha).
An ice cream drive-thru serving Blue Bell (a brand of ice cream found in the south) in West Jordan. It’s super convenient and the serving sizes are very generous. I got a single scoop of blackberry cobbler in a cone that was massive. There’s also a Thirst drive-thru next door.
Located in Sandy, Joy Pops sells gourmet paletas and drinks in a wide range of delectable flavors. Go crazy and dip your paleta in chocolate and cover it with your favorite toppings.
