While we’re patiently waiting for H Mart to open (so we can subsequently cry in it), visit these Asian supermarkets across Salt Lake County.
They recently moved down the street to their new location on 1701 S. State Street. Check them out for a wide variety of food and snacks.
Peruse the aisles of Sage Market in the Ballpark neighborhood and find Japanese ingredients and specialties like natto (fermented soybeans with a sticky texture). It’s also a great place to stop for a quick lunch. They’ve got tonkatsu ramen, udon, and bento boxes.
I found this family-owned store in West Valley on social media. Among their selection of fruits, veggies, and spices, they have hot foods like BBQ beef sticks for $3 (that they grill right in front of the store) and $5.99 banh mis. We love a bargain.
Located in Murray, this hidden gem specializes in Korean groceries. Their housemade kimchi is some of the best in Utah, and you can get it in gallon jars. While you’re there, try their kimbap, too.
This is a great place to take out-of-towners. For one, the store is huge, but they’re also situated in a shopping complex that’s surrounded by so many amazing restaurants. My favorites are Chick Queen (Korean-style chicken wings and the best “chicken tenders”), One More Noodle House, and 85°C Bakery Cafe for a treat.
