Friday marks the first day of spring — though, did we even get a winter? Either way, the new season comes with its own to-do list. Here’s a quick cheat sheet to get ahead of spring in Salt Lake.
Spruce Up Your Yard
- When should I turn on my sprinklers? Generally, the best time to turn on your irrigation system is around late April to early May. You can also check the Utah Division of Water Resources’ weekly lawn watering guide, which uses weather data to make recommendations.
- Where to drop off green waste? You can always start by composting at home, or through either the city’s curbside program or Momentum Recycling. You can also drop off food scraps at Wasatch Resource Recovery or City of Industry.
Declutter Your Space
- Where to dump bulk items? Salt Lake City residents enrolled in the city’s curbside program can request Call 2 Haul twice a year. Arrange a pickup date, and your items will be collected curbside. You can even organize a group collection with your neighbors.
- Alternatively: You can drop your bulky trash at the Salt Lake County Landfill for a small fee.
Prepare for Allergy Season
- How do I prepare my home for allergy season? Salt Lake City is among the country’s worst places to live if you have seasonal allergies. Seal any cracks around windows and doors to keep pollen outside, replace or clean your air filters, and wash your bedding weekly.
