Your Guide to January 2025 in Salt Lake

00:00:00

I know the whole “new year, new me” concept can be a bit cheesy, but something about January really does feel like a fresh start. It’s the perfect time to experience new things. Here are some that you might be interested in this month.

The Midway Ice Castles are a winter bucket list item in Utah. There you’ll find ice thrones, slides, caves, tunnels, even a nightly fire show atop a frozen tower. Tickets range from $12 to $25. While you’re in town, take a gander around Midway. It’s just really dang cute.

You’ve heard of skiing, and you’ve probably heard of birding, but have you heard of birding on skis? If you’re headed up to ski at Alta, join the Tracy Aviary Conservation Team to help identify mountain birds that stick around during the colder months. The experience is open to intermediate skiers ages 12 and up and is held every month through April (weather permitting, of course).

If you’ve never been, now is the time to visit Midvale’s Main Street. It’s iconic for so many reasons. Vincent Drug store (though now closed for business) was a filming location for “The Sandlot.” Next door to Vincent Drug are some new kids on the block: The Bambino (as in “The Great Bambino”) pizza restaurant and a new Cactus & Tropicals (opening this month!).

I’m in a constant battle (with myself tbh) to be my nephews’ favorite aunt. Most of them are really into monster trucks right now so I’m going all in and taking them to Monster Jam happening Jan. 3-5 at the Delta Center. Tickets range from $20 to $70.
