Make this month whatever you want it to be: a fresh start, a soft reset, or something in between. Whether you’re diving into new goals or keeping things low pressure, we’ve got picks for you. Here’s your guide to Salt Lake in January.

The iconic Egyptian Theatre, sadly, won’t host screenings at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival. (Ali Vallarta/City Cast Salt Lake)
Attend the Last Sundance in Utah
I mean, what can we say about Sundance that hasn’t already been said? After more than 40 years in Park City, the iconic film festival is moving to Boulder, Colorado. Don’t miss your last chance to see films, spot celebrities, and experience Sundance in Utah. Single tickets go on sale Wednesday, Jan. 14 at 10 a.m.
Learn to Play Hockey
Kids ages 5 to 11 can hit the ice and learn hockey with the Utah Mammoth at Millcreek Common. The four-week program includes eight on-ice sessions, and participants get to keep a full set of hockey gear at the end.
Get a Tattoo?
After all, isn’t the new year about being spontaneous? Look Look Tattoo specializes in American traditional tattoos and recently relocated from Sugar House to the Central 9th neighborhood. Not ready to commit? You can still stop by their tattoo museum, the only one of its kind in Salt Lake City.
Follow Dog Influencers
Human influencers are so 2025; this year, I’m following dogs. One of my faves is Willow, aka The Dog Queen of SLC. She has big pointy ears and knows all the best dog-friendly events and businesses in town.

Books & Supply is hosting hi-fi listening sessions throughout January. (Terina Ria/City Cast Salt Lake)
Hi-Fi Music & Chill
Sometimes you don’t wanna do anything but listen to music and chill. Check out a hi-fi listening session from winter solstice to spring equinox in the back room of Books & Supply.
