What will you plant this spring? (Wasatch Community Gardens)

Looking for free/inexpensive things to do for spring break in Salt Lake City? We’ve got some ideas to keep you plenty entertained on the cheap.

Start Spring Gardening

According to Wasatch Community Gardens, this is the time to start your seeds for your spring garden. Luckily, you can exchange seeds or pick some up for free at the Salt Lake City library’s annual Spring Seed Swap this Saturday, March 7.

Get Your Groove On

1520 Arts offers dance classes, from hip hop to belly dancing, for $15 a class. You can also attend one of their open sessions on Tuesdays (for break dancing) or Sundays (open style) for free!

Spend a Day in Downtown Daybreak

Hear me out, Daybreak is cool. You can get there by TRAX, watch a Salt Lake Bees (aka the Utah Dirty Sodas?) game, and feel like a kid again at the Megaplex, which has movie theaters, an arcade, and a bowling alley.

A Little Self Care

I mean, who wouldn’t want a hair wash, scalp massage, and Farrah Fawcett blowout for just $15? To snag the deal, book your appointment by March 15 (for any available date in March) with any hair stylist at Foiled by BEK in Farmington.

Free Museum Days

  • A Symphony of Disappearing Sounds for the Great Salt Lake: A nighttime installation at Memory Grove from March 26 to April 4 features a glowing sphere and a haunting musical score made from recordings of local wildlife and sounds from the Great Salt Lake.
  • Grief Work: A multi-artist exhibition at Material from March 6 to April 10 explores the theme of grief and loss across a range of mediums.
  • Design a Chess Set: Third Saturdays are free at the Utah Museum of Fine Arts, and this month you can design your own chess set and create a stop-motion animation on March 21.
