When reflecting back on the highlights of 2023, all the good food I ate is a major one. Here are some of the best bites I had in Salt Lake.
Central 9th Market
Where do I begin? Central 9th Market served up some of the best morsels I’ve tasted in Salt Lake City. The standouts are their smash burgers (Monday nights only) and breakfast sandwiches (served every day). The smash burgers are thin, but juicy, and the breakfast sandwich served on fluffy, housemade focaccia can’t be beat.
Oquirrh
Speaking of bread, I enjoyed a meal at Oquirrh restaurant that started with a simple sourdough appetizer with a side of butter, radishes, and sea salt. The main course was a yummy trout with potato soup and leek “dust,” but I honestly am still dreaming about that bread.
Azúcar Café
I’ve talked about Azúcar Café before as having one of my favorite coffees in Salt Lake (here’s looking at you, mazapan latte), but they’re also home to the most delicious chilaquiles. Chilaquiles are corn tortillas, fried, and cooked in salsa. Coming from a medium-spice girl, they are spicy but so worth the burn.
Tomodachi Bake Shoppe
Tomodachi Bake Shoppe makes some truly excellent treats. Last summer, they hosted a back-to-school event with Mims Bakery, where they served kouign-amann ice cream sandwiches (with Normal Ice Cream). Who knew that this flaky, sugary, pastry would be such a perfect vessel for creamy, salty, vanilla ice cream? I was thrilled when they started selling their baked goods at Loki Coffee, because that means it’s that much easier to get my sweet treat fix.
The Angry Korean
They have locations in Cottonwood Heights and South Jordan for those who live in the valley. My go-tos are the fried wings and beef bulgogi bowl. A side of kimchi is mandatory.
