What Does the Salt Lake County Council Do?

The Salt Lake County Council makes decisions that impact the lives of 1.2 million residents — a third of Utah’s population! The council approves budgets, passes ordinances, and holds regular public meetings. Affordable housing, transportation, and public health are all key issues the council addresses through various proposals and policies.

Recent initiatives include:

Who Is Your Council Member?

The council has nine members: three at-large members who represent the whole county for six-year terms and six district members who represent specific areas in the county for four-year terms. Most of Salt Lake City is in District 1, but check the map to find your district.

On the ballot: Democratic candidate Natalie Pinkney and Republican candidate Rachelle Morris are running for Salt Lake County Council At-Large C.

How Can You Get Involved?

Attend a county council meeting. They’re held every Tuesday, unless it’s a public holiday. You can submit public comments in-person or online. Keep an eye on the county’s agenda to see what topics will be discussed.
