What Does the Salt Lake County Council Do?
The Salt Lake County Council makes decisions that impact the lives of 1.2 million residents — a third of Utah’s population! The council approves budgets, passes ordinances, and holds regular public meetings. Affordable housing, transportation, and public health are all key issues the council addresses through various proposals and policies.
Recent initiatives include:
- 💲 Voted to put a $507 million public safety bond on the ballot.
- 🎶 Promised to preserve Abravanel Hall.

Who Is Your Council Member?
The council has nine members: three at-large members who represent the whole county for six-year terms and six district members who represent specific areas in the county for four-year terms. Most of Salt Lake City is in District 1, but check the map to find your district.
