Think of this as your Hey Salt Lake community bulletin board: a dedicated space for volunteer opportunities, resources, fundraisers, and other ways to help your neighbors.
Free Tax Help
I hate to break it to you, but Tax Day is less than two weeks away (Monday, April 15). If you need assistance filing your tax return, here are some free resources.
- Volunteer Income Tax Assistance: Westminster Tax Clinic provides free preparation services to low-income and elderly taxpayers, as well as guidance.
- Tax Counseling for the elderly: They offer tax guidance for anyone but especially those who are 60 years of age or older. Visit aarp.org or call 2-1-1 or 1-888-227-7669.
- Tax Help Utah: Provides free tax preparation at taxhelput.org. Call 2-1-1 or 1-800-906-9887.
- For even more resources: We’ve got a guide for that. [City Cast Salt Lake 🎧]
Animal Volunteers
Salt Lake County Animal Services is looking for volunteers. Volunteers play with the animals to get them socialized or pitch in at events.
- Book Buddies: Kids can get involved, too. The Book Buddies program invites kids to read to shelter cats and kittens.
Donate a Meal
Donate a meal to Circles Salt Lake. They help individuals and families in need and have a number of openings from now until the end of the year.
Court-Appointed Special Advocates
Become a court-appointed special advocate for kids in the welfare system. This volunteer opportunity requires a commitment but could be a good choice for those looking to mentor or who are interested in supporting foster kids.
