My resolution this year is to keep trying new hobbies until one sticks. The biggest hurdle is narrowing down what hobby I want to start on first. With all the options out there it can be overwhelming. Instead, I’m trying to lean into the infinite possibilities and embrace that there’s no harm in trying multiple new things at once. If you’re on a similar journey to finding a new hobby, here are some tips.
- Source the library: I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it a million times, use the library for its many free resources. Besides offering books on any hobby you could think of, they have creative workshops (sewing, 3D printing, photoshop) and a library of equipment you can borrow, like pasta-making kits, GoPros, and telescopes.
- Step outside your comfort zone: This is the time to try things you normally wouldn’t. Maybe Utah Juggling Club or a sensual dance class.
- Make new friends: If you’re looking to expand your friend circle, taking a class is one of the best ways to find people with similar interests.
- Or, bring friends along: Find a friend who is also committed to learning a new skill. It really helps on days you’re feeling unmotivated.
