Did you know 29% of Downtown Salt Lake City is dedicated to parking spaces? If you’re new to the city or have lived here your whole life and still get confused about parking, here’s some helpful info.
Pay Station Parking: If you see the sign above, you can park here — but you’ll have to pay, Monday-Friday between 8 a.m.- 8 p.m., for a maximum of two hours at $2.25/hr. You can pay at a pay station or through the ParkSLC app. On Saturdays you can park for free for two hours, and Sundays are free all day. If you have a hybrid or EV, you can get free parking with a special permit. Also, metered parking is free on city-observed holidays.
Free Parking: There’s plenty of free parking in Salt Lake City, too. Check out this handy map.
Parking Garages: There are a ton of parking garages (hence the 29%), but City Creek Center is pretty central and is free for the first two hours ($3 for each additional hour). Regent Street Garage is $2 per hour.
Remember These Rules
Fire Hydrants: Park at least 5 feet from a fire hydrant, even if there’s no sign or red curb.
Crosswalks: Park at least 20 feet from crosswalks and never on them.
Stop Signs: Park at least 30 feet from a stop sign.
Public Streets: Don’t leave your car parked on a public street for more than 48 hours. You can get towed!
Hot Tip
If you don’t want to worry about the hassles of driving/parking, take public transit.
