If you’re anything like me, you probably have a shelf (or basement) of clothes gathering dust, yearning to be worn by someone new. Or maybe you're knee-deep in spring cleaning. Here’s a list of places that would appreciate your donation.
Donation Centers
- The Geraldine E. King Women’s Resource Center takes gently used women’s clothes.
- The Road Home helps people get back on their feet and operates the Gail Miller Resource Center and Pamela Atkinson Men's Resource Center. Both centers take donations daily. They have a handy guide on what they need for each season and ask that gently used clothing be laundered beforehand.
- Got clothes for teens? Try Salt Lake Youth Services (new items only) or Volunteers of America Youth Resource Center.
- Big Brothers Big Sisters of Utah have donation centers at local businesses throughout the state. They accept books, clothes, and other household items.
Local Thrift Stores
- The Other Side Thrift Boutique is a local non-profit organization that helps people experiencing homelessness and addiction. The store is run by students and graduates of their program. They take gently used items and home decor. If you want to donate furniture you can't transport, they offer a free donation pickup service.
- Assistance League Salt Lake City is another local store whose profits go toward funding its eight philanthropic programs in the valley. They’re open Tuesday through Saturday and have a list of things they do and don’t accept.
