Spring is in the air and it’s time to roll. Here is a guide to roller skating Salt Lake City streets!
🔧 Need A Tune Up?
I have been guilty of neglecting my skates until they’re in shambles, but no more! Whether you need new toe stoppers, wheels or just a tune up — check out Beehive Skate. At most, they’ll charge you $5-10 bucks for a tune up, and if you need anything fixed they’ve probably got the part in house.
🤘 Join a Roller Derby League
Think you’re ready for something a little more hardcore? Have you thought about joining roller derby? The Derby Depot isn’t a public rink but they do host derby battles and offer beginner crash courses.
🪩 Skating at Skate Parks
Millcreek Common
If you’re looking for a fully smooth ride while still being outdoors, check out Millcreek Common. You can get an all-day pass for $7 and if you don’t have skates, rent some for $5. Maybe scoop some pizza and ice cream after.
Classic Fun Center
An oldie but a goodie. As a Utah County girl, this is where I first learned to skate. The closest SLC location is in Sandy, but make the trip down for disco night starting at 9 p.m. every Saturday. Get your groove on for $14. $10 for students.
All Together Skatepark
It’s not just a place to skateboard! Open skate is $10, but Thursdays alternate between $5 open quad and blade skate nights and $5 women, trans, femme, and non-binary skate nights.
🌳 Skating For Free
Liberty Park
Liberty is a free, fail-safe place to roll. Here you’ll find a community of skaters from beginners to pros. The 1.4 mile lap gives you a little bit of everything for a good glide. But beware of the wood chips and sticks on the sidewalk.
The 9 Line Trail
Everyone always talks about biking the 9 Line Trail, but have you ever rolled your way down? Start at 9th and 9th and head toward the Jordan River Trail. Maybe detour to T.F. Brewing or Scion Cider on your way.
