Your Guide to June in Salt Lake

00:00:00

June marks the start of summer and we’re soaking up as many rays as possible. Here are some of the best things to do in Salt Lake this month.

🎥 Movies in the Park

Long summer evenings mean it’s time for movies in the park. The South Jordan’s Movies in the Moonlight starts this month, and they have cool family-friendly activities that correspond with the movie. Like, a couple years ago they played “Harry Potter” and had a live owl at the screening.

🌳 Pickleball

When the weather’s warm, all I want to do is spend my days at a park, whether that’s picnicking or pickleballing.

A note for beginner’s: When it’s busy, most parks have a rotating system so that everyone gets a chance to play. Put your racket up on the fence as your position in line. Here are some of the nearby parks with pickleball courts:

Speaking of parks, City Cast Salt Lake podcast host Ali Vallarta is visiting every park in Salt Lake County (roughly 511!) this year. Keep up with her journey at Every Park SLC.

👩‍🌾 Farmers Markets

Do you go absolutely feral at an outdoor farmers market or are you normal? I mean, it is one of the best ways to romanticize your life, afterall. Fun fact: The Downtown SLC Farmers Market is one of the largest in the country and, good news, it starts this Saturday, June 1. Check out Utah Farmers Market Network to find the market near you and if they allow dogs, accept SNAP, etc.

🎉 Celebrate

One of my favorite things about summer in Salt Lake is that the city is buzzing with things to do. Here are a few celebrations to mark on your calendar:

  • It’s Pride month in Salt Lake. Wave your rainbow flags high and keep an eye on our events calendar.
  • Juneteenth celebrates the emancipation of enslaved people in the U.S. Our Sundays is hosting a Juneteenth Jubilee at Millcreek Common on Sunday, June 16 from 11 a.m.- 4 p.m.
  • Strawberry Days has been a Utah staple for over 100 years. It takes place in Pleasant Grove from June 15-23 and includes a carnival, parade, concerts, pie-eating contests, and strawberries of course.
