I’m judging baked goods at this year’s Utah State Fair, and in preparation, I’m eating delicious treats around Salt Lake. *cue the “Rocky” theme song*
I’ve been doing some serious taste testing, and this week is all about cake. Fortunately, Salt Lake loves its sweets, so I had plenty to choose from. Here are a few of my faves.
What sets their guava cake apart is the layers of cream cheese filling. Not too much to make it a cheesecake but just enough to pair gorgeously with the guava.
The olive oil cake at Tulie Bakery is unmatched. It’s dense but moist and chock-full of flavor. It has brown butter buttercream and notes of citrus, and it’s just perfection.
A great place to get a cake for everyday or a special occasion. A must-try is the tres leches, which was voted the best in Salt Lake City.
I don’t know about you, but sometimes I get nostalgic for a Hostess cupcake, and the ones at Passion Flour can’t be beat. They’re also vegan!
I always appreciate the unique flavor combinations that Lady Flour offers. This month I have my eye on the pistachio plum (pistachio cake, cardamom custard, red wine poached plum).
