The Living Traditions Festival starts today! It’s one of my favorites and always feels like the unofficial kickoff to summer in Salt Lake. The annual celebration honors the cultures that make up our city and features music, dance, and (best of all) food. Here are some standout bites to get you started.

Pro tip: Game-ify the festival and try something from every food booth.

🍖 Kahlua Pork from National Tongan American Society

Smoky, slow-roasted pork that’s big on flavor and melts in your mouth.

Golden cornmeal cakes that are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, stuffed with cheese or meat.

Dumplings in a paper bowl.

🥟 Chicken Mo from Nepalese Association of Utah

Steamed dumplings filled with spiced chicken and served with a scrumptious dipping sauce.

🥖 Báhn Mì from Vietnamese Volunteer Youth

A sandwich with savory meats, pickled veggies, herbs, and a crusty baguette. Wash it down with a passionfruit mint cooler or lychee lemonade.

🥭 Mango Sticky Rice from Thai Association of Utah

Save room for dessert with this creamy coconut rice paired with sweet mango.

🍩 Beignets from Mama Africa

Pillowy, deep-fried doughnuts covered in powdered sugar. Crispy on the outside and light and fluffy in the middle.
