Want to enter our costume contest? Come to 801 Day dressed as your favorite Salt Lake City icon for a chance to win a prize! Just check in with the City Cast team at the event; we’ll snap your photo and select the top 10 most creative looks for our readers to vote on. If you need some inspo, here are a few of our favorite Salt Lake City icons 💅

The 9th & 9th Whale

This sculpture that once drew plenty of skepticism (and dare I say, hate), has quickly become a Salt Lake City icon and even a religious shrine.

The Wizard

You know you’re a real Salt Laker if you’ve seen the SLC Wizard — long beard, black cape, holding a staff. He really is that guy.

Brine Shrimp

Move over seagulls, brine shrimp are the real heroes of the Great Salt Lake. They provide a valuable food source to the millions of birds that migrate to the GSL every year.

Secret Lives of Mormon Wives

Come as your favorite “Mormon Wife.” IMO, Demi may have tried to be Queen Bee this season, but she will never dethrone the reigning Taylor Frankie Paul.

Julia Reagan

Obviously, we couldn’t have a Salt Lake City icon list without the Mrs. Julia Reagan. The billboard matriarch died last year and became a household name after appearing on over 300 billboards in Utah and six other states.

Don't miss the shenanigans at 801 Day!
