It’s that time of year when we’re making plans and counting down the days to summer. If you’re looking for fun activities to do with kids, here are some of the best.

The best thing about attending parades in the summer as a kid was coming home with bags of candy, usually taffy. My favorite flavors were peppermint and cinnamon. Take a trip down to Santa Clara (near St. George) to make your very own taffy. The Taffy Shop offers an all ages class that costs $19 a person where you’ll learn to stretch, flavor, and package a batch of taffy.

Sign your kids (ages 5-8 or 9-13) up for summer camp at Millcreek Common. You can pick five-day sessions (Monday-Friday from 9 a.m.- noon) throughout June and July. Campers will learn to roller skate and rock climb, among other fun activities.

  • Don’t want to commit? Millcreek will also offer free “playtivities” for kids, Monday-Friday from 12-2 p.m. Each day a new activity.

The next camping trip with Camping in Color will be on Saturday, June 15. This community organization helps connect Black Utah families with the outdoors.

In participating Utah theaters, Cinemark is offering $1.75 tickets to watch select movies (like “Shrek”) between June 10-August 15. Hot tip: If you want to avoid online fees, purchase your tickets at the theater.

Anyone else go to soccer when they were little just for the soccer snacks (hmmm I’m sensing a theme)? Real Salt Lake and Rise Athletics Foundation are hosting free soccer clinics in June and July for ages 5-14. Keep an eye for when registration opens as spots are limited.
