What kind of memories do corndogs bring up for you? Do they remind you of styrofoam school lunch trays or late-night munchies? On City Cast Salt Lake, host Ali Vallarta spoke with corn dog enthusiast Sam Martinez about the underrated summer snack.
🌽🌭 Sam’s Picks
Hook & Ladder Co.
This is your diner level of corndog, where there’s more of an extensive menu. It’s the kind of place where you can also get chicken strips and other fried fare.
Sams says: “Hook & Ladder Co. is incredible. Nothing too fancy but a classic.”
The Corndog Company
This is your premium level of corn dogs, where the restaurant is dedicated to making one thing well. The corndogs are a bit pricier, but it pays off in quality.
Sams says: “The Corndog Company is probably the single best-executed corn dog in terms of perfect dog, perfect batter, and perfect crispiness … Just well done.”
🌽🌭 My Picks
Sanfran Burrito
Sanfran Burrito in the Chinatown Supermarket has tasty Korean hot dogs. If you’ve never had them, they’re like corn dogs but made with rice flour, so they’re chewier and crispier. You can get it with sausage or cheese (or both), and the whole thing is rolled in sugar for that sweet and savory combo. Or you can get one that’s covered with potatoes. You can’t go wrong either way.
Ketchup or mustard? How do you dress your dog?
