When life is life-ing, it’s hard to carve out that quality me time. But spending time alone is important, so this is your reminder to take yourself on a date already. Here are my ideas for the perfect solo hangout.

Books

Go on a bookstore crawl; we have so many great ones in Salt Lake: The King’s English, Under the Umbrella, Lovebound Library, The Legendarium, Marissa’s Books — you could even add a stop to the Salt Lake City Library.

Niche

One of the best things about spending time alone is catering to your niche interests. Maybe your thing is drawing, so take a sketchbook to The Leonardo or a pocket park. For me, I love specialty grocery stores, so I’ll spend time perusing the aisles at Chinatown Supermarket or Caputo’s Market & Deli.

Movie

This is a classic solo date for a reason. There’s something comforting about the alone-togetherness of seeing a movie by yourself in a theater with other people. Lately, my go-to concessions at Broadway Centre Cinemas have been popcorn with tajín, a Ritter Sport (the butter biscuit flavor), and a coconut chai.

Flowers

Miley said it best: Buy yourself flowers. The Petal Coop is a flower shop in Marmalade with gorgeous bouquets.

Relax

Ever since I found out about head spas on the internet, I’ve been hoping we would get one in Salt Lake. All I ever want is for someone to scratch my head. Turns out, there’s now a Holi Head Spa in Murray and Orem. They focus on scalp health with treatments and massages. It is on the pricier side, though. Services range from $50-$350.

What are your favorite activities for a solo date?
