Sweet and Awkward Salt Lake Proposals

00:00:00

It’s wedding season, I recently got double engaged, and love is in the air in Salt Lake City. If you’re looking for ideas on where to get down on one knee, City Cast Salt Lake readers and listeners submitted their sweetest proposals.

🪰 Shoo Fly Don’t Bother Me

“We went on a hike and he was planning to do it then, but a giant horsefly bit my face and I started screaming in pain. We finished the hike but my face was swelling up so he decided it wasn’t the right place to do it. Later in the evening, we got ready for dinner at The Tree Room and he did it on our walk down through the trees. It was actually beautiful and peaceful, but the funny part was the hike and being bit by the fly.” — Mollie B.

🪨 Rock of Love

“[I got engaged] at the Dugway Geode Beds. My husband thought it would be ridiculous to spend $60 on a geode box and thought he could just break one himself. He ended up spending months hiding geodes in his pocket and breaking them on walks with our dog, only to be disappointed that they were too small or didn't break right. He spent more than $60 on geodes. When we went out, he was so good at spotting them because he had spent months practicing.” — Kate H.

⛰️ A Mountain Top Proposal

“We got engaged on top of Wolverine Peak backcountry skiing. It was pretty windy, I wanted to get out of there, but my boyfriend insisted we take a picture. I didn't realize that he attempted to get on a knee; all I saw was him post-holing knee-deep and awkwardly hugging my legs. He said, 'I love you so much' and 'I want to keep summiting mountains with you forever,’ to which I reply, ‘Yeah, same.’ It was unclear that he was proposing until I noticed someone had a camera and was looking right at us. He had our friend skin up the peak coming from the opposite direction to capture the moment!” — Ashley V.

🔥 Rapid Fire Ideas

  • “Grand America! Always wanted to do a staycation there.”
  • “At the park on A Street in the Avenues at sunset. It was semi-public and perfect.”
  • “We got engaged at The King’s English and it was 🥺💕”
  • “Jupiter Peak Summit in Park City! On the same day/same location I met my now wife.”
