A special shout out to one of our City Cast Salt Lake Neighbors, Justice M., for compiling this epic list.
It’s December in Salt Lake City and it’s 58 degrees, but it’s always snowing in Hollywood, especially when Utah mountains are the backdrop. You might be surprised by just how many iconic films were shot here. So while we wait for real snow in the valley, curl up with these ski comedies filmed in Utah.
Falling for Christmas | 2022
Lindsay Lohan’s big holiday comeback movie with Chord Overstreet. It was filmed entirely in Utah, and if you have around $20,000 lying around, you, too, could spend a day like Lindsay in “Falling for Christmas.”
Dumb and Dumber | 1994
While only part of the movie takes place on the slopes, the unforgettable scenes of Lloyd and Harry bumbling around a ski town firmly earn it a spot in the ski comedy category.
Better Off Dead | 1985
A John Cusack cult classic filmed at Snowbird. It’s absolutely absurd in the best ways: a claymation hamburger, a paperboy on a bike ski demanding two dollars, and palm trees (in Utah??).
Ski Patrol | 1990
Also filmed at Snowbird, “Ski Patrol” is the epitome of ski comedies. The slapstick chaos is made even better by all the neon winterwear.
Frozen | 2010
No, not the Disney animated musical, an extremely stressful horror movie filmed at Snowbasin, where three friends end up trapped on a chairlift overnight. It’s so over-the-top it leans comedy.
Downhill Racer | 1969
A Robert Redford sports drama that is unintentionally funny in a way only a late-'60s sports drama could be.
