It’s fun to play tourist in your own state and explore new cities. Why not take a day trip to Springville? Located less than an hour from Salt Lake City, just south of Provo, discover why this small town is known as “Art City.”
The Springville Museum of Art is the oldest visual arts museum in Utah, hence the city’s moniker of “Art City.” Inside you’ll find a collection of over 2,600 works. Although it was officially dedicated in 1937, the museum’s history dates back to 1903, when the first two pieces of art were donated to Springville High School.
Current exhibitions include the annual quilt show and mixed-media paintings by Brian Kershisnik and Joe Adams. Every Thursday through Aug. 26, they host free summer sound baths in the Stewart Sculpture Garden.
After you’ve worked up an appetite roaming the art museum, grab some pizza (and cheesy bread!) at Two Jack’s Pizza. This family-owned business has been around for over 30 years.
This is not-your-average shopping center. The Legends Compound is made entirely of shipping containers. There you’ll find a speakeasy (every week they post a new password to get in), ferris wheel, and motorcycle museum.
Betcha didn’t think you’d find a beach in Utah County. Pack your picnic, bring your paddle boards, and make a day of it. Heads up: Parking permits ($15/vehicle) are required between May 1 and Labor Day for non-Springville residents.
Keep the good times rolling along the Lateral Parkway Trail. It starts at the Wayne Bartholomew Family Park and runs through Mapleton. A picture perfect landscape for biking or walking, especially at sunset.
