What do the holidays mean to you? For me, it’s about tender traditions and quality time with loved ones. When I was a kid, we had a silly little tradition of saying, “Christmas lights!” every time we passed a house lit up with lights in the car. As an adult, I’m wondering how my mom didn’t find us painfully annoying. But also, I’m cherishing the wholesome magic of this time of the year. Here’s a guide to see the lights and ignite that child within (Olympics joke intended).
Christmas Street
Christmas Street in Sugar House, famous for their festive light display, was at risk of closing down. Luckily, they raised enough funds to keep on keeping on. This Saturday, Dec. 9 from 6-8 p.m. they’re throwing a Santa Party for some fun and merriment. Taylorsville has a Christmas Street, too!
Tune-In Lights
There’s a cool light show in Highland, Utah by multiple houses on 11671 Granite Flats Road. Park your car in the church parking lot across the street, tune into 87.9 FM, and enjoy. It’s free, but they are accepting donations to benefit juvenile diabetes research.
Frosty’s Winter Wonderland
A can’t-miss classic is Frosty’s Winter Wonderland in the Avenues. It’s a house that’s decked out completely in lights and figurines.
Salt Lake City Parks
Bundle up and take a stroll through these Salt Lake City parks to see the sparkling lights: City Creek Islands, City Creek Park, Pioneer Park, Washington Square Park, and Memory Grove.
Temple Square
Even though much of Temple Square is closed for renovations, you can still check out the lights installed in the open areas.
