Urban trails feel like a city girl’s alternative to hiking. It’s a scenic route in a metro area — for walking and biking — that connects neighborhoods, parks, and green spaces. Here are some of the best urban trails to explore in Salt Lake City.

Neighborhood: Sugar House

Trail: Paved

About: A unique installation hidden in plain sight that consists of red rock formations and a sculptural sego lily. It’s located on Parley’s Trail (an 8-mile trail, if you’re feeling adventurous), west of the tunnel that connects to Sugar House park.

Neighborhood: Sugar House

Trail: Paved

About: A tucked-away sanctuary with a heartwarming story. This area used to be a dump site until a group of kids at Hawthorne Elementary organized to clean it up.

Neighborhood: From Glendale to 9th & 9th

Trail: Paved

About: This trail was created along the 900 South railroad corridor in order to enhance connectivity from east to west. Stop by Liberty Park for an idyllic Salt Lake City day.

Neighborhood: Yalecrest

Trail: Paved and unpaved

About: A piece of land that was preserved around 100 years ago by Minnie Miller because of its biodiversity. Recently, it underwent restoration to rehabilitate its degraded riparian habitat.

Note: Dogs are not allowed off-leash in the park.
