Horror movie locations in Utah. (Utah Film Commission)

The Utah Film Commission has a nifty map of movies that were shot in Utah. You can even filter by category. Make a day of it by visiting the locations of horror movies filmed in Salt Lake. ‘Tis the season 🎃

McCune Mansion

McCune Mansion on Capitol Hill already has a haunted history. Parts of the 1980s movie “Cataclysm” were filmed there.

Great Saltair & Union Pacific

The old Great Saltair was the perfect eerie background for the 1962 movie “Carnival of Souls.” In 1970, it burned down to the ground after an arsonist set it on fire. They also filmed inside the Union Pacific Depot when it was still a train station.

Friend Request

You may not have heard of the movie “Friend Request,” but Dolcetti Gelato was used as a filming location so this is your excuse to stop and get ice cream.

Larkin Sunset Gardens

Ari Aster’s “Hereditary,” which came out in 2018, has made it onto lists of the best scary movies of all time. While much of the movie was filmed inside Utah Film Studios, the funeral scene took place at Larkin Sunset Gardens in Sandy.

Exchange Place

Another Ari Aster classic, “Midsommar,” had a couple scenes in our backyard. A private residence in Draper was Dani’s (Florence Pugh) parents’ house. There was also a scene of Christian (Jack Reynor) walking down a snow-packed Exchange Place after learning of Dani’s family tragedy. Since you’re on Exchange Place anyway, grab some yummy grub at Arempas.

SLC Cemetery & Walker Center

In this scene of “Evil Angel” you can see the Walker Center lit up in the background. They also shot scenes at the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
