Confession, I’m the type of Salt Laker who grew up a Utah County hater. But lately, I’ve discovered some true Provo gems that are helping change my mind about the area. Take the FrontRunner down and make a day of it.
Truly the best fry bread in town. While they closed their brick and mortar store, they’ve been doing monthly pop-ups at Fresko. Keep an eye on their Instagram for dates.
A casual pizza place with tasty combinations like serrano honey and leek with garlic confit. No disrespect to the nonnas out there, but get a side of their house made ranch for dipping.
Their new Provo location has a make-your-own ramyun bar with 12 flavors to choose from and a variety of fresh veggie and meat options to mix-in.
Save room for dessert and grab a scoop at Rockwell Ice Cream. They have a goat cheese flavor called (naturally) “The G.O.A.T.,” with blackberry lemon jam and honey rosemary roasted almonds. The perfect combo of sweet and savory.
This place is a delight to peruse. It’s not just a fabric store; they have yarn, gifts, ribbon, and tchotchkes. During my recent visit, I picked up a flower frog (or kenzan) to try my hand at ikebana, a Japanese style of flower arranging. Because, alas, I can’t stop (won’t stop) hobbying.
Taste is a fun place to go for a celebration because they offer afternoon teas, chocolate tastings, or fondue. Remember to book your reservation in advance.
Everything old is new again, do you remember JNCO jeans? Well, they’re making a comeback and you can find them at this new vintage shop located in The Shops at Riverwood (5055 N. Edgewood Dr.). They carry a wide selection of T-shirts, too.
✈️ Bonus! Something I often forget about as a Salt Laker: There’s an airport in Provo that has cheap flights to almost 20 cities in the U.S. like Austin, Portland, and Orlando. In case you’re looking to getaway this summer.
